Vermeer In Details, a specialized magazine application for smartphone

Vermeer In Details is a rich and complete application which provides an interactive insight into Vermeer’s life, art and technique. This application is a “must” for visiting Vermeer’s works or simply studying them. It provides a short, yet clear and precise overview of Vermeer’s work. This application also opens a window to Vermeer’s world of the 17th century, as well as providing information about his city - Delft. Visiting Vermeer’s art is also visiting Delft, and sometimes literally. For those travelling to Delft, the ability to discover the story of the great Dutch painter in the history of the city, Vermeer’s art is a unique perspective and experience. Walking tours guide the visitor through the roads of the historical Delft blue pottery, the reborn beer tradition from the 17th century and the little secret places encompassing the picturesque city of Delft.

The project is born out of the conviction of a group of specialists in history, art, publishing and communications, that the opportunities available under the banner of new media are not fully exploited by art publishers. As new media is rising and filling our world, we must embrace this technology to bring art closer to the individual. This kind of application will bring a richer art experience to the public and stimulate people to go and see the artworks themselves rather than viewing copies or prints, to feel the real connection with the artist and his work. This digital interaction will engage the public, and raise awareness and knowledge, as well as above all interest.

Our idea is to create an interactive tool which will give the user the opportunity to not only see the artworks, but to understand the world of the artist. Brief texts, images and videos will provide visitors with background information, but will also further their implication through the community features integrated in the application.

Vermeer is not only his paintings, but also the museums these paintings are exhibited in, the city he was living in, the country he was born in, and the society he was a part of.
